The .PW domain used to be an old country domain name of the Pacific Island nation called Palau Islands (Near The Philippines). (Source:Wikipedia.) However now they are relaunching it and pre-ordering is now open. The promoters say .PW now stands for Professional Web.
I also heard this is a great new domain name type to get and a new online destination for professionals and businesses. For example, here are the advantages I heard about this domain name from the Name.com domain registration service.
Why .PW?
• Open registration – Anyone and everyone can own a .PW
• Stand out from the crowd – Short, memorable domains available
• Secure your brand – Preference given to trademark holders
• Reputable – Trusted by users around the worldGet in early to snag your perfect name with .PW. Submit your pre-order application today.
Despite these claims I don’t see any real value or advantages you will get by using .PW domains.
I remember some years back when the .Co domain name was released as a alternative to .Com there was lot of promotions and talk about it being the next big thing. They said it was great because all the good, relevant .Com’s were taken and businesses and individuals had a new opportunity with .Co domains to register a domain/s of their choice. So I think many people believed this marketing and bought the vastly overpriced .Co domain names. (I think initially they sold it for $28 when .Com’s were selling for $10). Today, several years later the general Internet public hardly knows about a .Co domain name let alone care about.
When buying a domain name there is nothing to beat a .Com domain address. If you can’t find buy a suitable .Com domain then settling for a .Net or .Org is the best. Or if you are doing business in a specific country then their domain name like .Co.UK etc is the way to go.
