If you are using WordPress as your blog or website software you need to be cautious about hidden links in the WordPress themes you might be using. You never know there can be hidden or malicious links pointing to websites you don’t want to link to in any free or premium WordPress Theme.
These links might sometimes be visible at the footer but sometimes they can be hidden and not visible or even encrypted in your theme files and visible only to search engines etc. So they can be harmful to your search engine ranking as well. So its important you detect and remove them.
But how do you detect them and remove them?
The easiest way I’ve found to detect and remove hidden links in any WordPress theme is to install the WordPress plugin called Theme Authenticity Checker (TAC).
Once the plugin is downloaded and activated it will scan automatically scan and show whether there are any hidden links or malicious encrypted links in your installed themes. To see the results of this hidden link checker plugin you need to go to its WordPress dashboard page. You can find that page as tab in the WordPress dashboard called “TAC” under the Appearance section. Below is a screen shot of this plugin checkers result page in Zeeron Solutions WordPress dashboard.
If your themes are OK and don’t have any melicious or unwanted links then this plugin will show a Green Box with Theme Ok! message.
However if any theme has got any big culprits, those Themes will show a pink label with the words, “Encrypted Code Found!” Click on Details to see the number of hidden links you have.
You can download this plugin here at WordPress.org. Or the best way is to go to your WordPress dashboard and install it via the Plugins page where you can search and install new plugins.
I want to thank Costa at Blogigs.com It is through his blog I got to know about this very useful plugin.
